“rediscovering” talent with the tellent Returnship program

Life happens, and sometimes we need a break. But returning to work after being away for health, family or other personal reasons is a challenge. Not only do return-to-workers face hiring biases on the company side, but they can also lack the confidence and up-to-date skills needed to get back into the ring.
As a company made strong by the uniqueness of each of our people, we at theturnlab know that talent can be found in unexpected places. That’s one of the reasons we were thrilled to partner with tellent to launch the Returnship Program pilot earlier in 2019, and which we recently completed.
The Returnship program is a 12-week paid work placement designed for women returning to work after a break period. It offers real-world job training, skill refreshing, professional mentoring, flexibility, and more.
“There is so much untapped talent out there,” says theturnlab co-founder, Malina Kaija. “The Returnship program is a much-needed initiative that has the potential to benefit a lot of really talented women and those who discover them. The Returnship provided us with an invaluable opportunity to support something we believe in, while getting the chance to find someone who others might overlook.”
While the Returnship was made available to any of the many disciplines we specialize in at theturnlab, we found our match in Jessica Klein, a talented project manager professional. Jessica was looking for a chance to break back into the professional world after a medical leave, and she jumped at the chance to apply.
Having recently completed her 12-week Returnship, we are happy to report that the program was a resounding success. The proof being: We hired Jess as our latest digital project manager!
“This experience has meant more to me than I can convey in a post,” says Jessica of her Returnship opportunity. “Coming back to work after a medical leave was a scary thing, but the combination of the tellent program and theturnlab turned it from scary to exciting! For that I will be forever grateful.”
